沖の神

沖の神 (Oki-no-Kamuy), Based on Ainu mythology, this illustration depicts Repun Kamuy, the benevolent sea deity who takes the form of an Orca. Known as the “Harvester,” he is a provider who balances the ferocity of the ocean with a protective spirit toward humanity. I included the small bird perched on his back as a nod to the traditional tales where the smallest creatures act as his messengers and scouts. The piece is framed by ornate, interlocking patterns inspired by Ainu textile art and Japanese waves, blending a modern illustrative style with the ancient reverence for the “God of the Offshore.”
